Ecotherapy

Ecotherapy incorporates nature into the experience of therapy.

Ecotherapy can include movement in nature, horticulture therapy, animal-assisted therapy and wilderness therapy. It can also incorporate other therapeutic modalities, such as mindfulness-based approaches, talk therapy, and relational therapies.

Ecotherapy is based on the idea that people are connected to and impacted by the natural environment. A growing body of research highlights the wide-reaching positive benefits of connecting with nature. There is also an abundance of literature linking time spent in nature to positive mental health outcomes.

I strongly believe that nature can be one of our most effective tools for regulation.

I offer Walk and Talk sessions at various parks and green spaces in and around Winnipeg in order for clients to experience the added therapeutic effects of nature, within their therapy sessions. Walking is a form of bilateral movement, which helps us process information and experiences. Walk and Talk therapy can be especially helpful for those of us who experience anxiety or panic, as movement is usually what our bodies are looking for when we are in that state.
